Diving in Marsa Alam and Sharm: planning transfers around early boats

Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh are two of the Red Sea's best diving bases, and divers run on a tight clock — boats leave early, and a missed pickup can mean a missed dive. Planning your transfers around the water, not the other way round, makes the whole trip smoother.

Early starts are the norm

Dive boats often cast off not long after sunrise to reach the best sites before the crowds. That makes your arrival-day transfer matter: the quicker and calmer it is, the more rest you get before an early alarm. A private car straight from the airport beats a coach that stops at five hotels first.

Marsa Alam's distances

Marsa Alam is gloriously remote, which is the appeal, but it also means long drives. Port Ghalib is right by the airport, yet southern bases like Hamata and Wadi Lahami can be ninety minutes to over two hours away. Factor that into your arrival — and your departure, so you are not racing for a flight after a morning dive.

Sharm is more compact

Sharm's dive hotels around Naama Bay, Sharks Bay and Nabq are mostly 5 to 20 minutes from the airport, so transfers are short. The thing to watch here is the departure day: many divers want a last morning dive, and there is a no-fly window afterwards, so leave sensible time before your flight.

Gear and bags

Dive kit is heavy and bulky. When you book, mention you are carrying gear so the car is the right size — there is nothing worse than a boot that will not close with a flight to catch. Tell us your boat times too, and we will build the transfers around them.
