Why booking ahead matters more here
Marsa Alam is the far south of Egypt's Red Sea coast, and it is gloriously remote. That is the appeal — empty reefs, dark skies, proper quiet — but it also means the airport is small, the resorts are spread over a long drive, and you cannot count on a taxi being there when you land. This is one place where having your transfer sorted before you fly really pays off.
Your driver is waiting whatever time you arrive, the car is comfortable for the longer runs, and the price is fixed no matter how far down the coast you are going.
How far is your resort?
Distances here are bigger than at the other Red Sea airports, so the journey is part of the planning:
- Port Ghalib — right by the airport, about 10 minutes
- Marsa Alam town and the nearby bays — roughly 30 to 45 minutes
- El Quseir — around 45 minutes to an hour north
- Wadi Lahami, Hamata and the far south — anywhere from 90 minutes to over two hours
Made for the longer drive
For the southern resorts you are in for a proper journey, so the cars are air-conditioned with water on board and the driver is happy to stop if you need a break. You will be met in the arrivals hall with a sign and on your way without hunting for a ride.
