Joining a Nile cruise in Luxor or Aswan: getting from the airport to your boat

A Nile cruise is one of the great ways to see Egypt, and most of them start in either Luxor or Aswan. The flight in is straightforward; the part people ask about is getting from the airport to the right boat at the right time.

Finding the right boat

Cruise boats do not dock at one tidy terminal — they moor in clusters along the river, sometimes rafted two or three deep, and the names can be similar. Turning up at the general area with your cases and hunting for the correct gangway is no fun. Luxor or Aswan?

Both airports are close to the docks — Luxor is about 15 to 20 minutes, Aswan a little less. Which one you start from depends on your itinerary; many cruises run between the two, so you fly into one and out of the other. Timing with embarkation
