Joining a Nile cruise in Luxor or Aswan: getting from the airport to your boat

A Nile cruise is one of the great ways to see Egypt, and most of them start in either Luxor or Aswan. The flight in is straightforward; the part people ask about is getting from the airport to the right boat at the right time.

Finding the right boat

Cruise boats do not dock at one tidy terminal — they moor in clusters along the river, sometimes rafted two or three deep, and the names can be similar. Turning up at the general area with your cases and hunting for the correct gangway is no fun. The fix is simple: give the boat's name when you book your transfer, and the driver takes you to the exact mooring.

Luxor or Aswan?

Both airports are close to the docks — Luxor is about 15 to 20 minutes, Aswan a little less. Which one you start from depends on your itinerary; many cruises run between the two, so you fly into one and out of the other. Just make sure your transfer is booked for the airport you are actually using on the day.

Timing with embarkation

Cruises have set embarkation windows, and an early temple visit or a dawn balloon ride can make for tight mornings. Booking a private transfer rather than relying on a taxi means the timing is yours to control — you leave when you need to, not when a driver happens to be free.

After the cruise

Disembarkation mornings are busy on the dock. Having a car already booked to collect you from the boat and run you to the airport or your next hotel keeps the last morning calm. Give us the boat and the time, and the driver will be waiting.
